development update
howdy all. i wanted to post a development update on the state-of-affairs for this particular project of mine.
Yes - I am still keen to finish this project. Will it come out this year? maybe not...
So i intended this to be finished for the goth novel jam way back in 2018, and well, it is still unfinished. I've been fairly preoccupied with school, so I did not have much time to work on this. Though, I did take a class on game development that gave me some new insights.
I still intend to complete this project on Twine, as I value accessibility to my projects. Browser compatibility removes the need for any file downloads, but the itch's browser playbacks limits the number of files in the zip, so I need to re-evaluate how to display the assets I planed for this story.
On a more fundamental note, I have been mostly struggling with the actual writing of this whole story. When I was first introduced to twine, about 3 years ago, I imagined creating a murder-mystery where player's actions in the beginning impacted who was the murderer and who was murdered. For inspiration I did watch a few murder-mystery movies for, and a quote from the Murder on the Orient Express (2017) particularly stuck with me:
... it takes a fracture of the soul to murder another human being.
And so my main writing pains comes from creating sensible murder motives for multiple characters. I still want to create an interactive murder-mystery when player choice can impact the who is the murderer/murdered, but I want to spend to fully realize these characters of mine.
I intend to continue updating, hoping to keep myself motivated. I will also try to post some more art/music/coding devlogs to outline my process in the future too.
Thanks for reading!
